Running with the Libertarian Party

By now you have noticed that there is not enough competition in local elections. You see the same names year after year on the ballot. No wonder why so many people don't bother to vote! The Libertarian Party is committed to giving voters a choice in local elections. We understand it is important for a healthy political system to give the main parties competition. You should be candidate with the Libertarian Party if you believe the following:

1. Individuals rather than government make the best decisions regarding how to run their own lives.

2. The purpose of government is to defend individual rights, not to find more ways to restrict them.

3. The government does not have a right to your hard-earned money, and that politicians have a duty to keep taxes as low as possible, and reduce them when possible. Libertarian candidates must publicly pledge not to vote for tax increases or increases in other government fees.

4. Local officials must defend the rights of property owners, not tell them what they can and can't do with their own property. The use of "eminent domain" is immoral.

5. Parents are the ultimate authority concerning their children's education, not bureaucrats and "professional educators". The foremost purpose of a child's education is academic in nature, not to mold him into a bureaucrat's politically correct idea of the "model citizen".

6. Government should not be in the business of charity work, no matter how worthy the cause, because individuals should make that choice themselves with their money, not politicians.

7. Whenever possible, problems should be solved by individuals and the private sector. Government must be tightly reigned-in so as not to become too oppressive.

8. Government should avoid taking out loans that taxpayers will have to repay.

9. Behind the scenes deals with the wealthy and influential can easily become an abuse of power and should be avoided.

10. Your first and foremost duty is to the people, not the "power brokers".

11. In order to be a candidate for the Libertarian Party, you must sign this pledge:

"I do not advocate the initiation of force or fraud as a means of achieving political or social goals."

If you agree with these principles, we would like to discuss with you the
possibility of running for local office with the Libertarian Party!
